IMIA Americas Annual Conference was held in Washington DC from Sept 27-29th, 2015. The event was well represented from over 70 business heads from who’s who of the mapping industry. The two day event had a packed agenda starting with a Business Connect session followed by a networking reception at the Washington Hilton Hotel. Business Connect session has become a key event at IMIA Conferences where each delegate company gets to speak to others in a three minutes speed dating process.
The conference keynote address was delivered by Mr. Tim Trainor, Chief of the Geography Division of the U.S. Census Bureau. The rest of the two days were followed by 14 presentations and lightning talks from businesses & government.
NextByte Technologies, co-presented with National Geographic Maps about refurbishing the website www.natgemaps.com to a map-centric portal using an eCommerce platform. Eric Janota from National Geographic Maps discussed the issues faced with their old site and how the new website is working effectively without any maintenance requirements from their end. Mani Singh, NextByte Technologies shared the execution strategy and best practices of making such transitions for websites that were built few years ago and need to change with technology shifts and marketing requirements.
